Pinwheel Music is a pioneering artist services company and record label founded by Johan Hultqvist in Toronto in 2011. Pinwheel offers a wide array of services to independent artists, including booking, tour management, career development and consulting, and publicity. Its roster has included award-winning, international touring artists such as Vieux Farka Toure, Zakir Hussein, JUNO-winning artists like Jayme Stone, Kiran Ahluwahlia, and Quique Escamilla, not to mention ground-breaking auteurs like Elizabeth Shepherd, Jaron Freeman-Fox, and John Southworth.
Prior to founding Pinwheel, Johan fronted JUNO-nominated dancefloor collective Mr. Something Something for close to a decade, playing 100 shows a year across North America. The band performed at most major folk and jazz festivals in Canada, along with hundreds of shows in clubs and theatres. Johan has been a judge for the JUNO Awards and a frequent industry event panelist. Aside from consulting independent artists he has also lent his music marketing expertise to organizations like the Songwriters Association of Canada, Folk Music Ontario, Small World Music Society, Mundial Montreal, Toronto Blues Society, True North Records, Do Right! Music, JazzFM and Lula
Lounge.
